Artist Sponsorship

After several years of producing this event, I’m convinced of the value of bringing a significant number of Brazilian artists from Brazil to teach and perform at Choro Camp New England. I am writing this in 2026, and this year we are bringing 7 such artists — more than ever! Yes, we could bring fewer and lean more on the Brazilians already based in North America. But then we would miss out on the vast pool of talent that Brazil itself has to offer. The group we’re bringing this year – Água de Moringa with Mariana Baltar – is a case in point: there is no comparable group based in North America, period.  We want to offer people the opportunity to meet and work with them, but to do that, and continue doing something comparable, we need additional support from those who have the resources to offer it. We call that support Artist Sponsorship.

Our goal for the Artist Sponsorship Fund is simple: to bring the cost of our Brazil-based staff closer to what we would pay for artists based in the US. That will allow us to keep the tuition of Choro Camp in line with what a typical music camp in the US costs. If Artist Sponsorship is applied to the cost of international airfares and work visas, tuition can cover artists’ fees, housing, meals and all the miscellaneous expenses of running a camp of this kind. To put a number on that, in 2026, the cost of airfares and work visas adds up to roughly $2000 per artist — $14,000 total.

Here are two things regarding Artist Sponsorship this year that may be of interest to potential sponsors:

    • Mauro Correa has launched a non-profit whose mission is “to foster Brazilian music education and cultural exchange”: BRAPA — Brazilian Performing Artists, Inc.  Routed through BRAPA, your donations are now tax-deductible.
    • On Monday, September 28, the night before Choro Camp starts, we’re inviting this year’s Artist Sponsors to dine and spend an evening with Água de Moringa and Mariana Baltar.  We’ll meet at Mauro’s house here in Northampton, with nothing on the agenda but good food, great company, and gratitude. Maybe some music. 🙂

Artist sponsors will have a direct, and very positive, effect on the quality of experience we can offer at CCNE. Everyone at the event – artists, campers, and me — will benefit enormously from your generosity. Please consider Artist Sponsorship this year. You can make your tax-deductible contribution through BRAPA by contacting Mauro directly at brapa2026@gmail.com.

Many thanks!
