Guitarist, composer, arranger, born in Rio de Janeiro, Luiz Flavio holds a degree in Music from UNIRIO, a master’s degree in Art Science (UFF/RJ), and a PhD in Music Documentation and History from UNIRIO. He is currently a professor of guitar and ensemble practice at Escola Portátil de Música (RJ), where he has been teaching since 2006.
From 2013 to 2015 and from 2018 to 2020, he was a substitute professor of popular guitar and ensemble practice at UNIRIO. He is a member of the Brazilian music group Água de Moringa (winner of the Sharp Award for best instrumental group in 1998), the Conjunto Época de Ouro, the Terno Carioca group, the Forró do Kiko, and the Cordão do Boitatá. He has also participated in the Brazilian String Orchestra, Camerata Gama Filho, the Pixinguinha na Pauta Orchestra, Furiosa Portátil, and the group Alevare, dedicated to the music of Astor Piazzola.
In addition to his solo albums Fotografia (2012) and Tresvarios (2013), the latter in partnership with Mauro Aguiar and singer Mariana Baltar, in 2017 he released the CD Aracy de Almeida, Rainha dos Parangolés, directed by Hermínio Bello de Carvalho, in a duo with singer Marcos Sacramento. In 2024, he co-produced Marcos Sacramento’s album Arco and released his own album Rio, available on all digital platforms. Also in 2024, with the group Terno Carioca, he paid tribute to composer and multi-instrumentalist Garoto in the show entitled Terno Carioca interpreta Garoto, held at the BNDES Cultural Space (RJ) and Casa do Choro (RJ).
In 2025, he participated as a guitarist and musical director of Roda de Samba do Sacramento. Also in 2025, with Cordão do Boitatá at the Baile da Música Brasileira, he accompanied several artists such as Geraldo Azevedo, Elba Ramalho, Armandinho Macedo, Lia de Itamaracá, Teresa Cristina, Maestro Spok, among others.
