Rui Alvim has been working with the group Água de Moringa for 36 years to the acclaim of critics and audiences alike. With five CDs released, his most recent work is entirely dedicated to the work of his great friend and mandolinist Joel Nascimento. He has performed concerts with AdM in Portugal, France, and Colombia.
Rui also performs in other instrumental groups such as Los Cuatro, a group dedicated to researching and integrating Latin American repertoire into choro, with one CD released – “Los Cuatro, outros caminhos do choro” (Los Cuatro, other paths of choro). With this group, he performed at the “Sonamos Latinoamérica” festival in Peru (2014) and Colombia (2015); Sexteto Mauricio Carrilho, Orquestra Pixinguinha na Pauta, Orquestra Furiosa Portátil, Orquestra do Rancho Flor do Sereno, Orquestra Criôla conducted by Humberto Araujo, and the Rio de Janeiro Philharmonic Band.
He has performed in other significant instrumental ensembles, including the Brazilian Music Orchestra conducted by maestro Roberto Gnattali and the São Paulo State Jazz Symphony Orchestra. He also has extensive experience in the studio and in concerts with big names in Brazilian popular music, such as Maria Betânia, Paulo César Pinheiro, Beth Carvalho, Martinho da Vila, Paulinho Moska, Zeca Pagodinho, Dudu Nobre, Moacyr Luz, Walter Alfaiate, Fundo de Quintal, Nelson Sargento, Marcos Sacramento, Mariana Baltar, Nei Lopes, etc.
