Born in Belo Horizonte, Lucas Ladeia is the cavaquinho player for Toca de Tatu and Assanhado Quarteto. He won the BDMG Young Instrumentalist Award in 2011 and was a finalist in the Choro Novo Festival that same year. He holds a Masters degree in music from UNIRIO.
He recorded the albums “Meu amigo Radamés” (2013), “Afinidade” (2017), and “Toca de Tatu” (2021) with the group Toca de Tatu, and the albums “Feira” (2015) and “Jararaca” (2021) with Assanhado Quarteto. He also recorded with Marku Ribas on the album “+Samba,” the most recent release by the renowned Minas Gerais singer. His first two solo works, Cavaquinho em todos os tons Volumes 1 and 2, were released on digital platforms in 2022.
Ladeia has performed at major music festivals in Brazil including the Savassi Festival, BDMG Instrumental, SESC Chorinho and Samba na Praça, Villa-Lobos Festival (RJ), SESC Choro da Casa Festival (SP), Chorando Sem Parar Festival (São Carlos/SP), Rio Montreux Jazz Festival (RJ), Clube do Choro de Brasília (DF), and Tudo é Jazz (MG). In 2019, he performed with Toca de Tatu at the Domingos Clássicos project (MG) with the Ouro Preto Orchestra, performing the Retratos Suite by Brazilian composer Radamés Gnattali, a performance he repeated in 2023.
He has completed seven international tours, performing with Toca de Tatu in 2014 at the Clube de Choro UK (London – England), the Escola Portátil de Música in the Netherlands (Rotterdam – Netherlands), Maison de L’Amérique Latine (Paris), and Maison du Brésil at the X Festival and International Choro Meeting in Paris, promoted by the Club du Choro de Paris (Paris – France). In 2015, he returned to France for another tour with Toca de Tatu, primarily participating in the Rencontres Internationales de la Guitare (International Guitar Meeting) in Antony (France). In 2016, he performed in various cities in Portugal and Paris (France) as part of the XI Festival and International Choro Meeting in Paris, promoted by the Club du Choro de Paris, with Assanhado Quarteto. He also completed two tours in Australia in 2017 and 2018, performing and giving cavaquinho and Brazilian music workshops, with highlights at Brazilian Day (Sydney-2017) and Manly Festival (Sydney-2018). In 2023, he performed and gave workshops in Argentina, in Buenos Aires and La Plata. In 2024, he returned with Toca de Tatu for another tour in Paris, where he performed and gave workshops at the XX International Choro Festival in Paris.
Lucas has performed alongside musicians such as Hamilton de Holanda, Naylor Proveta, Toninho Carrasqueira, Mário Sève, Ouro Preto Orchestra, Jovem Orquestra de Ouro Branco, Eduardo Neves, Zé Nogueira and Henrique Cazes.
Ladeia has been a music teacher for over 16 years, and participated as a teacher in three Euro-Brazilian Choro seminars in Belo Horizonte, events where he introduced Brazilian music to exchange groups from Europe and the United States.
In addition to circulating his solo works and group performances, he is currently focused on publishing new creations through web series like Canções and Projeto Cavaquinho Solista – on his own YouTube channel – and producing didactic content for cavaquinho. Alongside with that, Lucas Ladeia is also conducting research on cavaquinho performance in the Doctoral program at UFMG (Federal University of Minas Gerais).
