Morgana Moreno

Flutist and composer Morgana Moreno was born in 1990 in Salvador da Bahia, Brazil. While also trained in jazz and classical music, she has come to specialize in choro and has been a member of many groups who focus on that genre, including the highly-regarded Bahian choro group, Os Ingênuos

She was the winner of Festival da Educadora FM 2014 in Salvador – Best Instrumental Music category, with her composition Baião and 1st Prize at Leopold Bellan International Competition 2013 in Paris – World Music/Jazz category, with duo Morgana Moreno & Marcelo Rosário. Here the duo plays one of Morgana’s compositions, “Brasileiro”

Her education includes a Bachelor of Music in Flute from Universidade Federal da Bahia (UFBA) and a Master of Music in Jazz Flute from Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln, Germany. She taught at CODARTS (University of Arts Rotterdam) and EPM Netherlands. She currently teaches at the Escola de Choro de São Paulo.

Morgana has 2 albums recorded in Germany with the projects Morgana Moreno & Marcelo Rosário and Samba Jazz Clube. She has performed in prestigious venues in Brazil (Teatro Castro Alves, Clube do Choro de Brasília) as well as in Germany, France, Holland, Switzerland, Portugal and Spain.  In addition to her ensemble work, she obviously enjoys the challenge of solo arranging for flute. Here she takes up that challenge with Pixinguinha’s classic choro, Ingenûo.
