Natália Mitre

Drummer and percussionist Natália Mitre, a native of Belo Horizonte, is in-demand in both Brazil and internationally as a performer of both popular and concert music. A two-time winner of the BDMG Instrumental Awards, she first won in 2018, garnering Best Instrumentalist. She was then awarded first prize in 2021 for her work with Duo Foz.

As a vibraphonist, she is part of the Brazilian instrumental music group Semreceita. They released an album entitled “Semreceita” in 2017. She is also a member of Duo Foz, whose debut album “Interseção dos Mundos” was released in 2021. Duo Mitre, in which she performs with her sister Luisa Mitre (piano), released an album of originals called “Seiva” in 2021. The duo received the award for Best Instrumental Album at the 2nd Prêmio da Música Popular Mineira. Natália is involved in many other projects, including the Davi Fonseca Sextet, the Luísa Mitre Quintet, the Artur Andrés Ensemble and Bendito Jazz (with Trio Mitre and Amaranto).

Since 2019, she has been a member of the Orquestra Ouro Preto.  They have performed such repertoire as Valencianas, (with Alceu Valença) in Juiz de Fora, Recife, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, and Salvador. In 2022, the orchestra premiered the opera O Auto da Compadecida.

With the UFMG Percussion Group, she performed at the 2014 PASIC (Percussive Arts Society International Convention) in Indianapolis, Indiana. She is also a founding member of the berimbau sextet Arcomusical Brasil. This ensemble performed concerts and workshops at the 1st and 2nd Bow Music Conferences (2016 and 2018) in Durban, South Africa and they released their original album “Semente” in 2021.

Mitre holds a Bachelor of Music degree with a specialization in percussion and a Masters in Musical Performance, both from the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG).

Here’s Natália playing both pandeiro and vibraphone with her sister Luísa (also on staff this year) and our dear friend Anat Cohen (who will be on tour in Europe during Camp this year and sends her love to all.)
