I (Andrew) just received the text below by email from our dear friends Fabio, Fernanda and Vitor in NYC. This is a GREAT opportunity for anyone with an interest in choro:

We are writing to let you know about an upcoming opportunity that might interest some of your students and contacts.

Regional Samaúma is now offering a guided group-practice Roda de Choro course in NYC. This course is designed to promote the style of playing, practice and repertoire of choro music, while building a sense of community amongst participating musicians.

Those who will benefit from the course include Intermediate to advanced music students that are already familiar with some Choro Music, as well as more advanced classical and jazz musicians with no previous experience in the style, but who are interested in exploring this vast and rich musical practice. We will cover fundamental choro rhythms such as Polca, Lundu, Maxixe, Choro, Choro sambado, Choro canção, Scottish and Waltz. Participants will learn the nuances of roda de Choro playing, repertoire, the role of each instrument, and some Choro History.

Our instructors, Fernanda Silveira (cavaquinho), Fabio Oliveira (percussion), and Vitor Sampaio (7-string guitar), lead the Roda, which will take place in Manhattan at World Arts East, 115 W 29th St, Suite #1106, NYC, on Saturdays from 11:15am to 12:15pm starting on 10/12/2024.

We would really appreciate it if you can help us spread the word about this opportunity to those you think might be interested! Please refer them directly to the following form, where they can indicate their interest, find more info, and enroll:

We thank you sincerely for your attention and help spreading the word about this opportunity!

Um grande abraço dos amigos do Regional Samaúma,
Fernanda, Vitor and Fabio
