Hadar's concert and workshop were excellent. If you can join any of her other stops on this small tour (either in person or virtually) I recommend that.

Our friend Edinho Gerber from Chicago accompanied her and they sounded great. An audience member asked how long they'd been playing together and she said "since 11 o'clock this morning!" Setlist is attached; it touched on choro, baiao, and MPB.

The workshop (covering the very first part of Milton Nascimento's Encontros e Despedidas) focused on rhythm, basic harmony, leaving space, and listening to other musicians. These items are not emphasized in classical training, and even in this short time everyone who played improved. Moving past fear (of mistakes) and learning to add to what others are playing is hard, but there was progress and everyone enjoyed it.

Thanks to the Flute Center for letting people borrow the very nice flutes they had on display.

Melody, in the blue jacket, was in town for the Chicago Marathon. Originally Australian, she lives in Amsterdam, and I encouraged her to jump into the choro rabbit hole when she got home.
